A battery material regeneration company based in Houston, Texas — closing the loop on lithium iron phosphate cathode material.

The Company

RETTAB Technology restores spent lithium-ion cathode material to original performance. Rather than breaking the cathode down to elements and rebuilding it, we repair what cycling degraded — preserving the engineering that the original synthesis put there.

The name states the intent: Rettab is battery reversed, for reversing the traditional lifecycle of energy storage. Our focus is lithium iron phosphate (LFP), the chemistry behind the overwhelming majority of grid-scale storage now being deployed — and the chemistry the recycling industry is least equipped to handle economically.

Origins

Built on technology originated at the University of Houston.

The regeneration process RETTAB commercializes was developed in the laboratories of the University of Houston, where the underlying chemistry — recovering battery materials without acids, bases, or high-temperature smelting — was established and validated. RETTAB, Inc. was formed to bring that process from the laboratory to commercial scale.

The company operates under license to the University of Houston technology, and continues to work with the originating research group as the process scales.

Performance

Regenerated LFP matches virgin material through 200 cycles.

In half-cell testing, regenerated cathode-active material tracks the virgin curve across the full test window, conditioning to 150 mAh/g by cycle 200.

Why Texas

Texas operates the largest grid-scale battery fleet in the United States. The 2020–2023 build vintage reaches its first warranty wall between 2027 and 2030 — and today, essentially all of the spent cathode material leaving that fleet exits the state when it is recycled at all, while replacement material is imported back in.

There is no commercial LFP regeneration facility operating in Texas. The feedstock is here and the customers are here. Texas should not have to import the materials to keep its own fleet running.
